We are pleased to announce singer auditions for the upcoming 2022-2023 Season!
Mainstage Auditions
We will be designing our mainstage season around the artists we see in these auditions. We are planning three mainstage productions. Current works in consideration:
- L’elisir d’amore – Donizetti
- La sonnambula – Bellini
- Il barbiere di Siviglia – Rossini
- La bohème – Puccini
- La traviata – Verdi
- Rigoletto – Verdi
- L’enfant et les Sortilèges – Ravel
- Porgy and Bess – Gershwin
- A lyric work by Stephen Sondheim
All roles will be cast from these auditions. We encourage applicants to submit selections from works they are interested in performing. In the event that further consideration is necessary to cast a particular role, we may reach out to schedule virtual or in-person callback auditions.
All artist contracts will be CA AB-5 compliant with non-negotiable compensation between $20-$30 per hour including performances. The average LOOC artist contract includes between 5-8 calls throughout the rehearsal period, depending on the role.
In order to be considered for an artist contract, you must be eligible to work in the United States, and have a physical address in Southern California (no P.O. boxes, please!). We are unable to house artists this season.
Mainstage Audition Requirements
- Please submit three private recordings via YouTube made within the last 6 months
- You may submit any repertoire you believe demonstrates your capacity as an artist.
- Multiple languages are preferred, but not required.
- Please submit no later than 11:59 pm pacific time on Monday, February 15, 2022.
We greatly appreciate the time and effort you have put into your application. Due to the volume of applications we receive on a seasonal basis, we are unable to respond individually to each applicant. We look forward to reviewing your materials, and cannot wait to see you in the 2022-2023 season!

L’Opéra Petit Applications
Thank you for your interest in Lyric Opera of Orange County and the L’Opéra Petit program. We are excited to open artist applications for 2022. The program will feature scenes from the standard operatic literature, performed and recorded in a state-of-the-art performance space with full sets and costumes. Professional, high-quality recordings of the program will be available after the performance.
We will be designing our L’Opéra Petit program around the artists that apply for the program and their individual interests and goals. All roles will be cast from these auditions. If artists are seriously interested in performing a portion of a role, we encourage applicants to submit selections from works they are interested in performing.
All applicants will receive singing roles in the program and we will strive to program selections that feature our applicants in roles they desire.
Audition Requirements
- Please submit three private recordings via YouTube made within the last 6 months.
- Each recording should be an aria from a character you are interested in performing (no art song, musical theatre, or spirituals please)
- Multiple languages are preferred, but not required.
- Please submit no later than 11:59 pm pacific time on Monday, Feb 15, 2022.
Program Schedule
- Rehearsals: Monday, May 23 through Thursday June 2
- Dress rehearsal: Friday, June 3
- Performances: Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5

Program Fee
All program applicants must submit the program fee of $185 upon application, no later than 2/15/2022. Payment can be made via Venmo (@lyricoperaoc), Paypal (admin@lyricoperaoc.org), or check (please mail to Lyric Opera of Orange County, PO Box 80452, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688). This payment will cover the full tuition for participation, and will guarantee a spot in the 2022 program. Please indicate the name of the artist for whom you are paying and “L’opera petit” in the memo/notes field.
