Our #HarmonyInAction year-end giving campaign highlights the rich and diverse education and commuity offerings LOOC is known for in hopes of expanding our reach through fully funded and individually sponsored programs. Help us build opera audiences and artists in Orange County by giving in any amount today. Here are some examples of what your gifts can garner:

Program Highlight OPERA ENGINEERS: Opera Enginee

Program Highlight

OPERA ENGINEERS:

Opera Engineers is designed for middle and high school aged youth. Three to four LOOC Artists facilitate a workshop where students create, write, produce, andperform an original opera. Students study in depth the origins of opera, explore relevant themes and story settings, delve into prop building, costume and set design, and character development. Workshops culminate in an original performance for peers, families, and the greater community. Program components address the development of artistic abilities through sequential hands-on learning, critical thinking and problem solving, self-reflection, and social interaction. Program length is customizable from 12- 25 hours based on school calendar.

With rich and diverse offerings like these, you have a number of experiences to choose from with LOOC. Our end of year campaign focuses on making sure we can continue and expand the fabulous musical experiences we're known for and keep our community offerings as accessible as possible.

Yewon Ella Yoon, soprano, recently performed as Krysia and Mariola in multiple runs of Two Remain with Lyric Opera of Orange County, and Violetta in La Traviata with Pacific Lyric Association. Notable performances include First Lady in Die Zauberflöte with the Incheon Symphony Orchestra, Servilia in La clemenza di Tito at CCM, and Le Fue in L’enfant et les Sortilèges with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. She also sings with LA Opera Chorus, LA Master Chorale and Pacific Chorale. Yoon holds degrees from Chung-Ang University and Korea National University of Arts and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree at the University of Cincinnati.

Mezzo-Soprano Sarah-Nicole Carter has been hailed by the L.A. Times as “simply wonderful” and by San Diego Story as a “fiery mezzo-soprano”. SN originated the role of 2nd Frida in the 2022 premiere of El último sueño de Frida y Diego at San Diego Opera. Other SDO roles include Suor Dolcina in Suor Angelica, the mezzo in the two-woman opera Ascension, Giovanna in Rigoletto, and Kate in Pirates of Penzance.

Sarah-Nicole made her debut at the Kennedy Center performing La Lettre du jardinière and her voice was featured in Netflix’s Chef’s Table. She has performed over 15 opera and musical theater roles in her long association with Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater. A specialist in comedic roles, Sarah-Nicole studied improvisation at the UCB Training Center and The Groundlings Theater & School. She is pursuing a DMA in Historic Performance Practice at Claremont Graduate University.

Lily Berthold, soprano, was the 2024 first prize winner of the SAI PAC Aria Competition. Notable performances from 2023-2024 include: Adina (L’elisir D’amore) with Woodley Concert Corner, Valencienne (The Merry Widow) with Mission Opera, Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica) with Guild Opera, & Pamina (Zauberflöte) with Landmark Opera. Lily is currently obtaining her Master’s of Music at California State University Long Beach, graduating in 2026. Upcoming in February 2025, Lily will be originating the role of Rebecca in Daniel Kessner’s new opera: The Camp.
