Lyric Opera OC 2025 Emerging Artist Studio

June 9-21, 2025

Thank you for your interest in Lyric Opera of Orange County’s Emerging Artist Studio. We’re building on the success of of former L’Opera Petit program (part-time regional training program) and excpanding our offerings! The Emerging Artist Studio program will culminate in a full piano accompanied production of Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, sung in English, performed and recorded in a state-of-the-art performance space with full sets and costumes. Additional performing opportunities include an Aria Showcase concert, and a possible children’s opera. Professional, high-quality recordings of the program will be available after the performance.

Singers will receive one-on-one coachings with repetiture Carl Pantle and USC’s own Vocal and Opera Chair, Lisa Sylvester, and stage direction from Michael O’Halloran, and resume and career coaching with LOOC Artistic Director, Diana Farrell. Other practitioners and speakers to be announced. Final performances will be filmed and performed in a state of the art facility for a paid audience. 

This year’s program will include an aria concert, participation in a production of an Opera for Young Audiences, and a role in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld.

Each singer receives:

• New Headshots by Molly Noori (professional hair and make up provided)
• 2 Professional audition aria recordings, pianist included
• An aria concert performance
• At least one full role with performance
• Resume, website, and social media coaching and review
• Quotable reviews on solo and/or production performance
• Private coaching on audition arias and roles
• Private practice rooms
• Movement for stage group lessons
• Stage makeup tutorials and a take home Ben Nye stage makeup kit
• Recommendation letters for future applications
• Each student will be considered for The Mary Ann King Scholarship, currently valued at  $2,500.00, to be awarded at the program’s end to one participant. 

Housing not provided but singers traveling from out of state will be provided free pick up/drop off to John Wayne airport and a list of recommended accommodations. The program runs daily between 10 AM – 10 PM, full time. 

Limited spaces available.

All applicants will receive singing roles in the program.

Audition Requirements

– Please submit two recordings via YouTube made within the last 12 months.

– Multiple languages are preferred, but not required.

– First come first serve, limited spots available.

– Please submit no later than 11:59 pm pacific time on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

Age Requirements: There is no age limit to participate in this program, all interested artists over 18 years old are encouraged to apply.

Program Size: We strive to create meaningful artistic opportunities for all singers involved. To that end, we will be capping participation in this program once our artist roster is full with twelve artists.

Program Schedule

– Applications Up February 15, 2025 through March 30, 2025

– Parts Assigned by April 15, 2025, (½ Tuition due upon acceptance)

– Second tuition installment due by May 15th, 2025

– Program begins on June 9th, 2025

– Aria Showcase Friday, June 14, 2025

– Two Orpheus in the Underworld Performances on  Friday, June 20th & Saturday, June 21st 2025

Three sections of coachings and rehearsals daily.

Program Fee

There is a $10.00 non-refundable application fee. For students cast in the program, this will go towards their first deposit. All program applicants must submit the program fee of $1,880.00, with half upon acceptance into the program and the balance by May 20, 2025. Payment can be made via Venmo (@lyricoperaoc), Paypal (admin@lyricoperaoc.org), or check (please mail to: Lyric Opera of Orange County, 17620 Fitch Suite #280, Irvine, CA 92614). This payment will cover the full tuition for participation, and will guarantee a spot in the 2025 program. 

Cancelling your spot before April 5th will result in a $500 fee, with a refund of the remaining amount. Cancelling after April 5th will result in a loss of the deposit.
